Javier Oviedo
Javier Oviedo is an American classical saxophonist and co-founder of Classical Sax Project. Recognized for his rich tone, expressive musicianship, and refined technique, he has dedicated his career to expanding the artistic possibilities of the classical saxophone. His work bridges tradition and innovation through both the revival of historical repertoire and the commissioning and premiere of new works.
He has performed internationally as a soloist and chamber musician, appearing with orchestras including the New Jersey Symphony, Austin Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, l’Orchestre Lamoureux, and the City of Prague Philharmonic. His performances have taken place at major venues such as Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Salle Cortot, and the United Nations. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with distinguished conductors and artists including Akira Endo, Zdeněk Mácal, and Mitch Miller.
His recording work has been widely recognized, including The Classical Saxophone: A French Love Story, Lazy Afternoon, and Légende by Florent Schmitt with the City of Prague Philharmonic (MSR Classics). In addition to his work as a performer, he remains committed to developing new repertoire and sharing music with broader audiences through recordings and digital platforms. His work reflects a deep commitment to artistry, mentorship, and the continued evolution of the classical saxophone.
